New Chicks Hatch!

There was great excitement when the school ‘Chick Hatching Project’ came to fruition. After a period of twenty one days in an incubator, the hatching began on the expected delivery date, Tuesday 12th March. The fact that they hatched during school time was most exciting.
All classes were treated to a powerpoint presentation on the life cycle of a chicken by Sixth Class before being introduced to the first born chick. Three more chicks followed later that week, bringing us to a grand total of six chicks!
The chicks have now found homes in Kilmacrennan and are regular visitors to our school!
There have been numerous suggestions as to names for the chicks. Early contenders include Boiled, Poached, Scrambled, Fried, Omelette, Cheepy, Chick Norris, Hen-nifer Anniston etc……………
Really, they are cracking suggestions and egg-cellent ideas!

Excellent Performance at All Ireland Final for Sports Hall Athletics team.

Well done to our Athletics team from 3rd and 4th class who were victorious in the County Sports Hall Athletics finals in Letterkenny on Friday, 8th March 2013. The team first showed promise at the regional finals, with some fine individual and team efforts. They continued in this vein at the County Finals and qualified for the All Ireland Semi-Finals. This competition was held in Sligo IT on Thursday, 14th March 2013.
In the All Ireland Qualifying heat in Sligo, the school faced the corresponding champions from Galway, Sligo and Roscommon. There were 12 events on the day. When scores were totted up, Kilmacrennan had won seven first places and seven second places. This resulted in a first place overall with 134 points scored from a possible total of 144 points. Team members and parents were jubilant.

All eyes then focused on the National Finals which were held in Athlone IT on Wednesday, 2Oth March. There were some outstanding individual and team performances and well done to all. When the scores were tallied, Kilmacrennan N.S. girls finished in bronze position, a most creditable performance.

The hard work of the athletes and the School Athletic Club is paying dividend.

Futsal Champions

Congratulations to our school girl’s soccer team who won the County Futsal Soccer Championship in the Aura Centre, Letterkenny in February. The girl’s really enjoyed the event and played an exciting brand of football, ending up as group winners. In the final, the team enjoyed a 5-0 victory. The fact that they didn’t concede any goals during the five games played that day gives a measure of the skill, tenacity and determination of the team.

Garda Quiz Success.

Congratulations to our school quiz team who won the NW Garda Divisional Quiz on Friday, 8th March 2013. They will represent the school in the County Finals in April.
