Welcome Note 2019

September 2019 Newsletter

Dear Parent,

I wish to welcome you all for our school year.  All children appear to have settled well and are looking forward to a new term.  I would like to take this opportunity to remind you of a few issues:

The school opens daily at 9.10 am daily and supervision of pupils is provided from that time only onwards. School finishes daily at 2pm for Junior and Senior Infants, and at 3pm for all other classes.  No responsibility is accepted for children outside official school times. {For this week, Junior Infants will finish at 12 noon but will remain until 2pm from Monday, 9th September onwards}.

Seventeen pupils have enrolled in Junior Infants this year with another five pupils enrolling in other classes.  This gives us an overall enrolment of 194 pupils which leaves us 7 pupils short of the 201 figure needed by September 30th to maintain 8 mainstream class teachers for next year. Therefore, it appears likely that we will have a reduction in our teacher allocation next year.

Please label all items of school uniform, lunch boxes, school books etc.

We request that we are at all times provided with up to date contact numbers, particularly with reference to mobile numbers.  We operate a school text service and will send a greeting to all numbers on our database next week.  Please inform the school if you do not receive the introductory message.

We ask that you pay particular attention to road safety issues and request that your child is accompanied to and from the school gates. Parents are to park along the Main Road, observing normal parking regulations, paying attention to double yellow lines etc. The school car park is for staff and bus parking only.

We request that the school uniform is worn at all times, with non-branded grey tracksuit bottoms worn on PE days only. Also, we respectfully request that our Healthy Lunches policy is adhered to.

Please note that we have been informed that Communion for Second Class is scheduled for Saturday, May 9th.

Yours sincerely,

John Devenney.

Kilmac’s Got Talent

Congratulations to all the recent participants and finalists in this year’s KILMAC SCHOOL’S GOT TALENT 2019. The annual competition had singing, dancing, instrumental, magic, comedy and even gymnastics. The Senior winner was Kerry with a hauntingly beautiful rendition of Adele’s “When we were young” while the Junior prize was taken by Sarah Kate for her ballet dance to the accompaniment of the “Toy Story”theme song. Many thanks to Spar Supermarket, Millbridge, Coffee Time cafe and Sweeney’s Filling Station, Termon for their generous donation of prizes.

An Lá Spóirt

We recently held both our Junior and Senior Sports Day at Kilmacrennan NS. The children had a great time and enjoyed the fun and games.

Coastal Clean-Up

First and Second Class pupils partook in a coastal clean-up at Ards Strand recently. Many thanks to all at McGinley Motors who, in partnership with Volvo Car Ireland and Donegal County Council, organised the beach clean-up, helping to raise awareness and tackling the growing issue of marine plastic pollution.

Many thanks to our local Gardaí- Garda McConigley and Garda Sweeney – who visited our Junior & Senior Infant Classes recently. There was great excitement as the children tested garda sirens, examined batons and wore garda hats

Green School Flag

Kilmacrennan N.S. raised its fifth Green Flag at a recent in-school ceremony. The Flag was earned by the pupils for their on going work on Biodiversity. The honour of raising the Flag fell to Raymond McBride of the Kilmacrennan Men’s Shed, ably assisted by Gerald and hardworking Green-School Committee, under the watchful eye of Mrs Doherty & Master Gallagher. Clodagh of Sixth Class was Mistress of Ceremonies for the day
