School Sports Day

The annual School Sports Day was held on the school track in June. The children were divided into teams. Events included sprints, long distance races, sack races, egg & spoon race, penalty kicks and much more. Great fun was had by all. The teacher’s race was once again marred by allegations of false starts but once the dust settled, the old order was restored. Master Devenney and Master O Donnell crossed the line in a dead heat!

A great day was had by all

Green School Flag Success

We recently received notification that our school has been awarded a second green Flag. This year’s theme was “Energy”.

Our Green School Committee worked very hard over the past two years, striving to conserve energy throughout the school. We monitored our electricity comsumption carefully and consistently and our efforts were rewarded with an A2 Energy Rating for the school at the beginning of this year. The Green School Committee submitted our Green Flag Renewal application at the end of February and we were delighted to be notified after Easter that we are to be awarded our Second Green Flag during May.

Discover Primary Science and Maths

The school was delighted to hear that it has been awarded a Discover Primary Science and Maths Excellence Award for 2011-2012.

Our report complemented the work done by teachers and students noting that the standard of log books and the wide variety of science and maths work being carried out is extremely impressive; it is clear that teachers and students are using a wide range of resources and engaging in hands on investigation in the classroom and beyond.

Miss Diver co-ordinated the project.

GAA County Finals

Well done to both schools boys and girls Gaelic Football teams who reached their respective County GAA finals recently.
In the County semi finals on Wednesday 28th March at O’ Donnell Park, we won both games.

Kilmacrennan Boys 4-14 Buncrana 2-5
Kilmacrennan Girls 2-6 Bridgend 1-1

In the boy’s finals, we faced a strong Kilcar team. It was an excellent contest, nip and tuck in the first half. The wind helped Kilcar in the second half and the boy’s from the south-west of the county prevailed in the end. It was a most sporting contest and well done to both teams.

The girls played reigning champions Glenties on Tuesday, May 1st. Glenties retained their title but a number of excellent performances on the day from our players bodes well for the future of Termon GAA Club.
Comhghairdeas le gach duine.

INTO Handwriting winner

Well done to Cody who recently won the INTO Best Junior Class handwriting competition in the Donegal Regional Finals. Cody is pictured receiving his certificate in the Radisson Hotel in Letterkenny.

Hatching Chicks

6th class pupils in our school are eagerly awaiting developments with regard to our incubator. Five duck eggs and four chick eggs are in place. We believe that duck eggs take approximately 28 days to hatch while chick eggs take approximately 21 days.

Last year we successfully hatched two roosters named Chicken Little and Happy Feet. This is what they look like now.

Credit Union Team at All Ireland Quiz Final.

Well done to the U-13 Credit Union team who won the recent Chapter finals in Letterkenny recently. The winning team of – Eoin, Ruairí, Anthony and Shane qualified for the All Ireland Credit Union Quiz Final which was held in the RDS on Sunday April 1st.

The U-13 team put in a great performance in the All Ireland finals, finishing a most creditable 10th place. This was a great performance considering that 5,500 teams entered the competition with almost 25,000 participants.

In the local Letterkenny finals, the school U-11 team finished in second point, one point behind the winners. Well done to Caolan, Emma, Conor and Steve. 75 teams took part on the night. Well done to all.

Donegal Sports Star Success!

Well done to Master O Donnell on his recent success at the Donegal Sports Star Awards. At a function in the Silver Tassie hotel recently, he was awarded the prestigious Sports Teacher of the Year award in the Primary School section.
We were delighted to hear that our school was also nominated in the Best Primary Sport’s School category in the Donegal Sports Star Awards but were unsuccessful on the night. Nevertheless it was a great honour to have been considered and well done to all involved.
