G8 Summit Outing for Fifth Class.

The cosmopolitan Hillgrove Hotel in Monaghan Town was the setting for the second All-Ireland Children’s G8 Summit. Primary schools from many diverse areas of Ireland attended. Along with our own group of excellent fifth class pupils, we were joined by two Dublin schools, Balbriggan Educate Togeher and Griffeen Valley Educate Together from Lucan. St Mark’s Primary School based in the Twinbrook area of Belfast and Gracehill Primary School from Armagh were the two other schools from Northern Ireland who made up the quintet.

Many diverse topics were presented on the day including Racism, The Role of a Student Council for Children, Forty Years of St. Mark’s, The Hidden Cost of the World Cup and Animal Cruelty through the Recession.

The presentation was followed by a brainstorming session in which children from all schools mingled and gave their opinion on the very interesting topics discussed. An array of beautiful sandwiches, ciabatta rolls and chicken goujons kept the crew going until it was time to say goodbye and promise to meet again next year for yet another gathering.

2014 Ulster GAA Champions.

Well done to the school girls who won the Ulster Indoor GAA title recently.  Having captured the County title in Letterkenny, the team represented Donegal at the Meadowhill Arena in Magherafelt.  Four consecutive victories saw them power their way to Kilmacrennan’s first Ulster title in this competition.  Comhghairdeas le gach duine as an éacht iontach.

Quiz Winners.

ULSTER QUIZ CHAMPIONS.

Having won the Co. Donegal Cumann na mBunscol Allianz Quiz final recently, the team then represented the county in the Ulster Finals in Irvinestown in March 2014.  Well done to Ciara, Manus, Meabh and Conor on a great performance on the day.  They finished three points clear of the 35 other teams who had qualified, thus capturing the Ulster title.

GARDA QUIZ WINNERS.

On the same day, a team from the school participated in the divisional finals of the Garda Quiz.  Daniel, Harrison, Grainne and Conor represented the school in this event and, in a similar vein to the other school team participating that day, they too ‘took home the bacon’, finishing in first place.  They will now compete in the Garda Quiz County Final in April 2014.

5K Event.

The Kilmacrennan 5K event was held on Tuesday, 13th May 2014.  The event was a huge success with over 700 registered entrants.  The school wishes to thank the many sponsors and volunteers for their assistance on the day and acknowledge the generosity of parents with regard to the tea and sandwiches that were served afterwards.

Parent-Association Letter of 21st May.

The next meeting of the Parent’s Association will be held in the school on Wed 28th May at 8p.m. We are hoping to run a fundraiser prior to the end of June, possibly a table quiz, your support would be appreciated.

Many thanks to the parents of the children of first class for the refreshments they served on the day of the First Holy Communion.

See you at the meeting!

All Ireland Quiz Finalists

credit union winnersAll roads led to the RDS on Sunday 6th of April for the All Ireland Credit Union Quiz Finals.  We had two teams in this year’s finals, one in the U-11 Junior Competition and one team in the U-13 Senior Competition.  Both teams enjoyed a great day, finishing a mere four questions behind the winners.  Both teams were also the best performers from Ulster at the event.
