September School Newsletter

Dear Parent,

I wish to welcome you all for our school year.  All children appear to have settled well and are looking forward to a new term.  Twenty Junior Infant pupils have enrolled this year and we wish them well.

I would like to take this opportunity to remind you of a few issues:

The school opens daily at 9.10am daily and supervision of pupils is provided from that time only onwards. School finishes daily at 2pm for Junior and Senior Infants, and at 3pm for all other classes.  No responsibility is accepted for children outside official school times. {For this week, Junior Infants will finish at 12 noon but will remain until 2pm from Monday, 10th September onwards}.

Please label all items of school uniform, lunch boxes, school books etc.

We request that we are at all times provided with up to date contact numbers, particularly with reference to mobile numbers.

We ask that you pay particular attention to road safety issues and request that your child is accompanied to and from the school gates. Parents are to park along the Main Road, observing normal parking regulations, paying attention to double yellow lines etc. The school car park is for staff and bus parking only.

We request that the school uniform is worn at all times, with non-branded grey tracksuit bottoms worn on PE days only. Also, we respectfully request that our Healthy Lunches policy is adhered to.

Please note that we have been informed that Confirmation of our Sixth Class is scheduled for Sunday, 10th February at 12.30pm.

Yours sincerely,

John Devenney.

Kilmacrennan NS win their first Letterkenny Cup

Kilmacrennan NS girls were worthy winners of the Letterkenny & District Schools cup for the first time ever recently. The tournament consists of all the primary schools in the Letterkenny Gaels, St Eunans, Glenswilly, Termon, Newtowncunningham and St Michaels catchment areas. The tournament is now in its fourth year and continues to grow. The girls were in Group 2 when the draw was made along with Glenswilly NS, Lurgybrack NS and SMGS Letterkenny. The girls had three tough games in the group stages but three wins saw them top the group and qualify for finals day in the Letterkenny Gaels pitch. The semi final saw them involved in a tight tussle with Woodlands NS.  Playing with the aid of a stiff breeze in the 1st half, the girls failed to convert the chances that came their way and went in at half time a point down. However, a much improved 2nd half showing saw the girls prevail by a four point margin.

The other semi final saw SMGS, Letterkenny win through against Illistrin NS to set up a repeat of the group stage encounter between Kilmacrennan NS and SMGS. The final saw the Kilmacrennan girls opt to play with the aid of the breeze in the 1st half again. However, unlike the semi final, the girls this time converted their chances and went in at the break with a commanding lead. They held on to this lead for the remainder of the game to run out winners on a scoreline of 2-5 to 0-3. The final whistle saw scenes of jubilation as the girls received the Susan Carr Memorial Cup for the first time ever.
