Tidy Towns Clean-Up
Mar 28th
Fifth class pupils held a 45 min clean up of general litter in the school environs and on the Cottain Road recently, gathering 5 refuse bags of rubbish in that short period.
Many thanks to Ms Hegarty, Master Gallagher and Mary from Kilmacrennan Tidy Towns Committee for organising the event.
Fifth Class visit Highland Radio
Mar 7th
Fifth class recently visited Highland Radio for a tour of their station. The class were very lucky to get an opportunity to create their own jingle, watch a show going out live on air and investigating the inner workings of Ireland’s most popular local radio station. It really brought the Communications strand of the Geography curriculum to life for the children. Many thanks to our student teacher, Miss McGroarty for organising the visit and to Linda McGroarty, Oisin Kelly, Canice Wilson and David James at the station for their time and patience.

Dear Parent,
The school recently received hundreds of new book titles from Eason’s as a result of one of last year’s pupils, Jack Mc Bride, finishing as runner-up in the All Ireland Spelling Bee Final last year. The total value of the prize was €3,000. Jack returned to the school recently to launch the revamped library.
We will celebrate World Book Day in the school on Thursday, 7th March. The children are free to dress in home-made literary/film characters on the day, only if they so wish.
Congratulations are afforded to our School Debating team on a recent win in the Letterkenny Debating League. Our indoor hurlers reached a County Final Blitz but were unfortunate to lose lost out by the narrowest of margins on the day.
We have several teams participating in Sports-hall Athletics this week.
The school recently underwent a Curriculum Evaluation in Science. Initial feedback from the DES Inspectorate is positive and it was a beneficial experience.
The Board of Management conducted a Child Safety Annual Audit at its February meeting.
Surveys for both the Kilmacrennan Tidy Towns and an Craoibhín Pre/After-School Group were handed out recently. Please return these to the school by tomorrow, Tuesday.
Spring may have arrived but don’t throw out your old clothes just yet as the Parents’ Association are planning a ‘Bag2School’ old clothes collection in May. We also wish to thank all parents who assisted recently with the Confirmation Tea in the School Hall.
We are grateful to Kilmacrennan Men’s Shed who recently donated hand-made bird-boxes to the school.
The school will be closed on Monday, 18th March (St Patrick’s Day Bank Holiday).
Finally, Anne has promised to make us all a pancake on Pancake Tuesday. No pressure there, Anne…….
Yours sincerely,
John Devenney.
