2012 Cross Country Success

Well done to all who participated in the Donegal School’s Cross Country Championship in Finn Valley recently, returning with a magnificent haul of 11 individual and three team medals. The U-9 Boys and U-11 girls won a bronze team award while a first, second, fourth, fifth and eighteenth place finish (out of a field in excess of 100 runners) ensured a gold award for our U-11 Boy’s team. Well done to all.
We look forward to the Ulster Championships in Fintra in November. Training will continue for all athletes.

‘Cheepy’ the chick

We have been busy in the last couple of weeks taking care of our new arrival ‘Cheepy’ the chick. The egg was in an incubator for 3 weeks and successfully hatched recently. The day that the egg began to hatch was very exciting; Sixth class could actually hear the cheeping coming from the incubator during class time. The egg hatched after class but Miss Ferry recorded the birth on her phone and showed it to the children. Following a vote the children decided to call the new chick ‘Cheepy’. Now that the chick has hatched, the children are busy monitoring its’ food and water, making sure it has enough to eat and drink.

School Sports Day

The annual School Sports Day was held on the school track in June. The children were divided into teams. Events included sprints, long distance races, sack races, egg & spoon race, penalty kicks and much more. Great fun was had by all. The teacher’s race was once again marred by allegations of false starts but once the dust settled, the old order was restored. Master Devenney and Master O Donnell crossed the line in a dead heat!

.

A great day was had by all

Scríobh Leabhar Gaeilge

Bronnadh gradaim ar bhuaiteoirí ‘Scríobh Leabhar Gaeilge’ ag ócáid in Óstan Loch Altan, Gort a’ Choirce i mí Bealtaine. Well done to the chidren who won prizes in the recent ‘Scríobh Leabhar Gaeilge’ initiative.

Green School Flag Success

We recently received notification that our school has been awarded a second green Flag. This year’s theme was “Energy”.

Our Green School Committee worked very hard over the past two years, striving to conserve energy throughout the school. We monitored our electricity comsumption carefully and consistently and our efforts were rewarded with an A2 Energy Rating for the school at the beginning of this year. The Green School Committee submitted our Green Flag Renewal application at the end of February and we were delighted to be notified after Easter that we are to be awarded our Second Green Flag during May.

Discover Primary Science and Maths

The school was delighted to hear that it has been awarded a Discover Primary Science and Maths Excellence Award for 2011-2012.

Our report complemented the work done by teachers and students noting that the standard of log books and the wide variety of science and maths work being carried out is extremely impressive; it is clear that teachers and students are using a wide range of resources and engaging in hands on investigation in the classroom and beyond.

Miss Diver co-ordinated the project.

GAA County Finals

Well done to both schools boys and girls Gaelic Football teams who reached their respective County GAA finals recently.
In the County semi finals on Wednesday 28th March at O’ Donnell Park, we won both games.

Kilmacrennan Boys 4-14 Buncrana 2-5
Kilmacrennan Girls 2-6 Bridgend 1-1

In the boy’s finals, we faced a strong Kilcar team. It was an excellent contest, nip and tuck in the first half. The wind helped Kilcar in the second half and the boy’s from the south-west of the county prevailed in the end. It was a most sporting contest and well done to both teams.

The girls played reigning champions Glenties on Tuesday, May 1st. Glenties retained their title but a number of excellent performances on the day from our players bodes well for the future of Termon GAA Club.
Comhghairdeas le gach duine.
