Co Rounders Champions for the first time!

Kilmacrennan rounded off the school year in great style when they added the county rounders title to the soccer and gaelic titles they had won earlier in the week. They met Scoil Iosagain, Buncrana in the final who are no strangers to this sport as they had won 4 of the last 7 titles. However, on the day it was our students who really performed and took the honours. Eoghain was presented with the shield by Cumann na mBunscol chairperson, Maria Doherty much to the delight of the students.

Kilmacrennan boys are FAIS (11 a-side) soccer champions:

The Kilmacrennan boys proved their worth when it comes to finals and they once again proved this as they overcame the challenge presented by the Glenswilly boys in the FAIS soccer final played in Letterkenny. The boys played against a stiff breeze in the first half. This didn’t hamper them as they took a quick two goal lead through Ciaran and Eoghain. Another strike from the six yard box from Caolan made it 3-0 at half-time.

The second half saw Glenswilly play much better football and they were unlucky on a few occasions not to hit the net. Ciaran direct from a corner, Caolan and Rory saw the boys lift this title for the first time. Well done all!

Kilmacrennan boys are county GAA champions:

Congratulations are extended to Mr Gallagher and his team on a complete team performance in the county final which was played in Glenswilly. Muff came into this final in sparkling form having breezed their way through the Inishowen section. Our boys knew we were in for a huge challenge as Muff were fast out of the blocks in the final when they notched up the first four scores on the scoreboard. It took the Kilmacrennan boys more than 10 minutes to settle into any pattern of play and when it arrived they never looked back.

A quick fire burst of 3-1 put us in a commanding position and one we wouldn’t relinquish. The half ended with us four points to the good. The boys started the second half in blistering fashion and 1-3 within the first 5 minutes of the second half put us on our way to victory. A stunning performance all round and credit to everyone involved. Maith sibh!

Kilmacrennan qualify for County Rounders Final:

Congratulations to the children from Rang 5 & 6 who overcame the challenge of Scoil Cholmcille/SMGS, Letterkenny in the rounders semi final last week by 17-8. They now qualify for the finals in Convoy this Friday @ 10am.

Senior boys qualify for Cumann na mBunscol Final:

The senior boys are certainly on a roll at the moment when it comes to winning and they have qualified for their third final this year. Indeed they have proven themselves in both codes, namely GAA and soccer. They recorded a hard earned victory in their semi final against a gallant St Macartan’s of Bundoran, and were made to work hard for their victory.  Best of luck in the county final where Muff await.

Senior boys qualify for Letterkenny Cup Final:

Congratulations to the senior boys who qualified for the Letterkenny cup final for the first time in the schools history by defeating Ballyraine NS in a close encounter at Lurgy Park.  The whole squad of 18 got game time and played a huge part in the result. A stiff challenge will await in the final against either Convoy or Glenswilly.

Cumann na mBunscol Blitz:

Congratulations to the senior boys who have qualified for the county semi finals having gone unbeaten in their blitzes involving Glenswilly NS and Dungloe NS. The boys are now busily preparing for their semi final against the winners from the Southern Donegal sections. The girls have bowed out of the competition having lost narrowly to Dungloe in their play off played over in The Rosses. They will meet Bundoran in the semi final.

Kilmacrennan Girls are county soccer champions

Congratulations are extended to the girls from Rang 3 & 4 who won the Toyota Soccer Cup in conjunction with the Finn Harps Schools Programme. Having come through the qualifiers in Letterkenny in April, the girls travelled to the Finn Valley Centre in Stranorlar with plenty of confidence that they could take home the silverware. They were pitted against Glenties NS, St Marys from Stranorlar and Castlefin NS in a four way blitz at the finals. The schools played a mini league series initially to determine placings for the semi finals. In the semis, the girls played Glenties NS. Nothing separated the sides and the game went to penalties. Sudden death ensued and it was our girls who came out on top on a 3-2 scoreline. The final against St Mary’s, Stranorlar was another tough encounter and with very few chances created, it led once again to the dreaded penalties scenario. Once again our girls didn’t flinch under pressure and won on a scoreline of 2-0 to claim the silverware. Scenes of jubilation awaited the girls as they paraded the cup through the village on their return. Well done to all on a job well done!!

Boys qualify for Letterkenny Cup Semi Finals

Our senior boys have qualified for the semi finals after a superbly contested game against Educate Together in Leckview Park, Letterkenny yesterday. The panel of 18 boys all played well and took the chances that came their way. We move on now to the semi final stage where we play Ballyraine NS.

R4 Girls Qualify for Co Soccer Finals

Congratulations must go to the girls from R4 who have qualified for the soccer 7s finals which will be held in Finn Park in early May. The girls competition comprised of five schools including Stramore NS, Gaelscoil LK, Ramelton NS, Illistrin NS and Kilmacrennan NS. The girls qualified for the final against Illistrin as they both finished in the top two places in the group. The final proved to be a tense affair and one goal decided proceeedings, with the winner coming midway through the second half. The girls can now look forward to the county finals in early May.

The boy’s competition involved six teams, all the above named schools participated along with Creeslough NS. The boys played five games, winning three but agonisingly lost the other two by virtue of penalty shootouts. This was to prove costly in the end as they just failed to reach the finals on the head-to-head with Illistrin.

Well done to both teams on a great display of football and behaviour on the day.

Senior Boys are FAI Schools 7s Champions

Having qualified through a tough group prior to Christmas, the senior boys travelled in confidence to Ballyare with an unbeaten record in all soccer competitions this school year. Indeed it was only last week that they failed narrowly to qualify for the FAI 5s finals on goal difference.  They faced off against Scoil Fionan, Falcarragh and Scoil Mhuire, Glenties in a three way play-off for county honours.

The boys were superb on the day and recorded victories over Falcarragh and Glenties. The boys received their cup from Shane Barr (FAI Coordinator for Donegal) to great delight from both parents and children alike. Indeed this was the first time Kilmacrennan had lifted this cup in only its second year of existence. Well done all!

FAI 7 a side soccer qualifiers

Congratulations to the senior boys who have qualified for the county finals of the FAI 7s. The boys qualified out of an extremely competitive group that included Glenswilly NS and Gaelscoil LK. Indeed they had to avail of penalties to defeat last years champions Glenswilly. This set up a final against Educate Together. The final proved most exciting with the boys qualifying for the finals at the end of March.

The girls were extremely unlucky not to join the boys in the finals as a 4-3 defeat at the hands of Galesoil LK  in the first game proved their undoing. They bounced back well to record three wins on the trot against Termon NS, Ramelton NS and Educate Together to finish a credible runners-up. Well done everyone!

Rang 4 FAI Futsal Blitz

The boys and girls from Rang 4 travelled to Mulroy College to participate in a fun soccer blitz against teams from the North-West region at the end of January. This was a really enjoyable day out and everyone in the class got the opportunity to take part. No doubt many of these children will go on to compete for the school on a competitive basis in the coming years!

The girls faced off against Malin NS in the final after both schools topped their respective groups earlier in the day. The final ebbed and flowed one way and another. Cumann na mBunscol County Champions, 2014. The boys played two blitzes against both Glenswilly and Dooish. They tied at the top of the group with Glenswilly on the same number of points. Therefore, a play off was required between both schools to determine who qualified for the county final. Kilmacrennan won through after a tough encounter, qualifying for the County Final blitz. On County Final Day, Kilmacrennan defeated Tooban N.S. in the first match, setting up a winner takes all encounter with Scoil Aodh Rua & Nuala, Donegal Town. It was a fascinating match, with free-flowing football. Kilmacrennan N.S. had three points to spare at the end, thus claiming their first boy’s title in this competition. The girls came up against strong opposition from the above named schools and have bowed out of the competition.
