Online Safety Talk

We wish to thank Garda O Connell and Garda Talbot of the Milford Garda District for visiting our school recently to present a really informative and enjoyable presentation on online safety to Fifth and Sixth Class pupils.

School Debating success

We are busy on the School Debating front at the moment and are participating in two different competitions. We have enjoyed two successes from two in competitive contests in our opening league games in the Letterkenny Debating League but further stiff challenges await us in the weeks ahead.

We have also entered the Donegal Education Board run Concern Debating competition and have also enjoyed two successive wins. The standard of debating from all teams participating is very high and we wish our team the best of luck in upcoming challenges.

Tuesday, 19th November 2019.

Dear Parent/ Guardian,

A meeting will be held in the school this evening in the School Library to elect two parents from our parent body (one father, one mother) to the Board of Management.  All are welcome and the meeting will begin at 7pm.

Our school was recently selected to participate in a pilot scheme (CLIL) whereby children in selected classes are taught a subject, or parts of a subject e.g. PE through Irish for eight week blocks. As we do quite a bit of this already, it should not come as a major shock to the children and we look forward to it.

The HSE screening of Junior Infants and new pupils has been deferred until the 9th and 10th December.

Cinderella, by the Letterkenny Pantomime Society, is scheduled for Friday, 24th January 2020 in the Aura Leisure Centre (please note the change of venue).  As the school benefits from this, we ask you to support the event.  Tickets @ €15 each or €25 for two are available from the School Office and would make ideal Christmas gifts.

The Christmas Concert Day is scheduled for Wednesday, 18th December.

Parent-teacher meetings are being held in the school this Thursday, 21st November. Pupils are not to be present on the school grounds during the meetings as we do not provide supervision.

We wish to thank-you for the magnificent response to the Sponsored Walk fundraiser; we were delighted to raise €2,600 for the school.

The local St Vincent de Paul organise hampers annually for local distribution at Christmas and respectfully request an item of non-perishable food donation from each family, if possible. Suitable donations include tinned foods, pasta, rice, tea, coffee, sugar, biscuits/sweets, jelly, custard, cereals etc, paying attention to expiry dates. {Donations by Monday, 2nd December, please}.

Yours sincerely,

John Devenney.

Board Elections

Dear Parent/Guardian,

As you may be aware the current term of the Board of Management will expire on 30/11/2019 and a new Board of Management takes up office on 01/12/2019.

Two parents of children enrolled in the school (one being a mother and the other a father) must be elected by the general body of parents of children enrolled in the school.

A meeting will be held at the school on Tuesday, 19th November 2019 at 7pm.  At this meeting:-

  1. Nominations will be sought from parents for persons to stand for election as parent nominees on the Board.
  2. A ballot will be held at the meeting to elect the nominees.  If there is only one nominee for either panel, the nominees shall be deemed to be elected.  If more than one nomination is received for either of the panels, a secret ballot shall be held at the meeting.
  3. Please note that you may self-nominate at the meeting. Whether or not you self-nominate, or are nominated by another parent/guardian, you must be seconded by a person attending the meeting.

I wish to take this opportunity to thank all the outgoing members for their contribution to the Board of Management over the past four years.

Yours sincerely,

Fr Patrick Dunne,

Patron’s Representative.

Explanation of the The Role of a Parent Nominee

Even though Parent Nominees are elected by parents, they do not represent the parent body.  Parent Nominees are elected by the parent body to bring “a mother’s view” and “a father’s view” to Board of Management deliberations. To this end, their contribution to the Board is a very important one, and they are not required to consult with the wider parent population, take instruction from them or report back to them.

Comórtas Guth Ghoill

We enter the Guth Ghoill Irish language poetry competition each year.  This year’s event is scheduled for Saturday, 30th November 2019 in Downings.  Please let us know if your child wishes to participate.
